Unboxing Art Supply Packages!

This is a loooong overdue packages from a year back! I haven't gotten a chance to open it up because it was sent to Sweden (I was in Sweden last year), but alas! Before every single package reaches Sweden I sadly had to go to Indonesia to settle up some business.

All of these are art supplies! Natural, hand milled, earth-ochre, mineral-gemstones watercolor paints from Stoneworks Mill, Wildthorne, and Ruby Mountain. Aside from paints, I also got myself the beautiful beautiful handmade paper from Amalfi, and a lovely art book by Kateri Ewing, "Look Closer Draw Better".

When the new (old) packages arrive and you just feel so giddy!

Stoneworks Mill paints! My most favorite handmade watercolor paints so far! Kelli, the owner, was so generous! She included lots of freebies in the package, I think it's legit for me to cry now. I will send her some paintings and art goodies later on. Thanks Kelli, you are the best!

What I ordered:
Terra Artem Shell Set
Terra Artem Mini Shell Set
Cartesian Set, The Great Outdoors palette
Viridian green pan
Falling Leaves palette
Kingfisher and larkspur: gifts ( those two colors along with some exquisite colors in half and full pans!)
I also received The Winter Horizon palette as gift!

The precious, teeny tiny Terra Artem river shell set that I really adore. One of a kind, special assortment of the tiniest river shells from her studio.

She securely attached small magnets to the small shells and put them inside a tiny metal tin. She also gave me a small pink shell as an alternate holder for the river shells. Just how beautiful that seashell is?

And here's the actual, bigger Terra Artem shell set that was available on her Etsy store:

Another favorite palette from SWM, The Great Outdoors cartesian palette. Phew! Nine alluring colors that granulates beautifully, some colors have a bit of sparkling shimmer in it, this is just so beautiful.

I promise I'll be reviewing every single Stoneworks Mill paints on a separate post. I've tried them and oh wow, it's hard for me to get back to factory made paints now. I've fallen in love too deep with handmade watercolors.

Moving along, I have this lovely palette from Wildthorne...

This is a special palette from Wildthorne called "Art is for everyone" palette. Curated by my favorite artist Kateri Ewing and meticulously hand milled by Kim Wildthorne. Kim, however, changed the name of this palette to "Dandelion" palette not too long ago.

It's all thanks to Kateri Ewing that I got to know the exquisite world of artisanal watercolors. I love how this palette has that bright yellow color called Mimosa, which, allowing me to make a wider range of colors creation. Just like what the creator said on her site, " the Dandelion palette is a great introductory set to the world of artisan mineral watercolor".

Last but not least is paints from Ruby Mountain. Kate posted this one certain palette called Icelandic palette and I thought I just had to buy it!

How you like the swatches?!! I love it! The colors have beautiful granulation and they're giving off a vintage vibe, reminds me of wall arts I saw in Drottningholm palace.

Amalfi paper and an art book, "Look Closer Draw Better" by Kateri Ewing! It's a beautiful book, really, if you are into art I highly suggest you to get a hand on this book. This book allows me to see and enjoy art from another perspective, it allows me to discover a secret beauty of ordinary objects in our daily lives, and how to enjoy the artistic progress in a calm, meditative approach.

The book is nicely priced on Amazon, here's the link.

My wooden handmade watercolors stash box I got from my cousin's wedding. My collection is small but definitely growing, slowly but sure.

I know I'll need a bigger one soon. There's a lot of things I need to buy in the future. I've been eyeing Rivelove paints by Andeline Wright for a while now, oh my gosh she has one of the most exquisite, the most intriguing, special, unique handmade watercolors paints ever made. The colors especially her WO191 granulates beautifully like no other!

Wow, what a long entry! I'll be back with more post that will showcase my recent paintings featuring handmade paints from Stoneworks Mill, Ruby Mountain, and Wildthorne.

Toodles!

Watercolor Study: Learn to Paint Bird From Photograph

Doing a watercolor study is one of my hobby, it's fun, educating, and therapeutic. Birds are my favorite object to paint, especially chickadees. They look artistic even in a photograph, aren't they?

Few days ago, unlike usual, I was being a little bit productive and painted two of these birds. It's all started with me finding a good, photogenic looking photograph of birds on Google. Normally, I need something 'artistic' to pique my painting mood, otherwise I'd be in art block state for what seems like forever.

Paints and other art supplies are crucial. Having special paints, brushes, and papers will put me in artistic-mood. I love painting with natural-handmade watercolor paints, I also love handmade paper like Amalfi! I'm totally head over heels in love with everything handmade!

I'll be posting and reviewing all of these special art supplies later. I'd get my long-awaited-huge batch of handmade watercolors and papers in less than a week!

Alright now before anything, it's important to know about copyright law for derivative artworks. Read more about that HERE.

Anyway, as a reminder, this is just a study, using photograph as a reference can be a good start for aspiring artist to draw better. Photographs are one of useful tools you can use to improve your artistic sense. Photograph gives a lot of information about the object itself, as well as color value, composition, and harmony.

Paints: Lutea natural watercolor
Paper: Fabriano Artistico, traditional white. Cold pressed.
Brush: Silver Brush-Black Velvet

I've never liked hyper-realistic painting, really. What I'm after is more to the feels, senses, and individuality of the artwork itself. I want something different, something special that only you can create. Just like a signature.

Before this study, I've also never liked Fabriano paper, I was always into Arches! But after I tried Fabriano with Lutea watercolors, I think I like Fabriano!

The most fun part is painting the wings, I love it!

Talking about birds, there was this random sparrow that got into my house. I named him beguk (beugook). He coudn't fly properly so I let him rest for a few hours before releasing him back to nature.

Moving on to the next watercolor study, I have this small, cute chickadee.

Paints: Lutea watercolor
Paper: Arches, cold pressed
Brush: Silver Brush - Black Velvet

The chickadee is way more fluffier on the photograph, painting on small scaled paper is really challenging as I have way less space for details. Particularly with Arches, the cold pressed one is more texturized and rougher than Fabriano, and painting details is harder on rough surface. I will try painting on the other side of the paper later because it has less texture and see if the end result would be smoother and nicer.

About the paints, I only use three different colors for both paintings. Indigo, Yellow, and Rouge Red. Lutea is a very special paints that also has special place in my heart. It's an all natural paints made from grass, plants, and flower. So exquisite, isn't it?

Watercolor illustration: Ragnarok online ranger

Made this in may as a birthday gift for a friend I met from an online game, Ragnarok online. Though, I have stopped talking to her because of some bad bad mishaps :/ If any one of you is interested I might start writing about personal dispute on my blog, but I'm not sure if you guys would be happy to see me venting out my stress on blog, haha. Though, I think it's gonna feel nice, sometimes, to do that.

But anyway, I've been painting on a smaller sized paper so that I'd get adapted to it, I plan to sell smaller paintings in the future, I also bought some nice small deckled edge paper from Amalfi.

I just ordered the second smallest Amalfi paper available, 10 x 7 cm (4 x 2,8 in), name card size. Thanks to Kateri I got to know this beautiful beautiful paper!

Well, like both naturalism style and Japanese manga slash animeish style and will be painting on Amalfi paper more in the future. I really love the deckled edge! Talking about paper, I haven't tried painting on Amalfi yet, but I've already fallen in love! I'll post a review later. For now, my favorites are Fabriano and Arches.

Okay I've digressed too much!
Here's the closer look on the illustration I made

It's harder for me to make small details on A6 sized paper. I need to get myself smaller brush! The one from Silver Brush - Black Velvet is really nice! Been using that  a lot to paint whatever I paint now.

Paper:  Arches, cold pressed
Brush: Silver brush black velvet, squirrel size 4 and 6
Paint: Sennelier L'aquarelle and Prima watercolor Decadent Pies

I used white Sakura Gelly Roll to draw the lashes, cause I like it white. Outline was drawn with mechanic graphite pencil and redefined with watercolor (payne's gray).

Here's how it looks before the coloring:

The character is a ranger from Ragnarok online mobile - Eternal Love, she's holding a tail  (kind of pet?) called Puriku.

Hope you guys like it, I'll be back with more posts!

Didn't know slipping on wet floor could be this bad

Yesterday, one of the ball valve in my house was broken and I had to fix it. When I was trying to do so, the water spurted everywhere, made the floor really slippery. Okay, so, I had this dirty water inside a bucket that I had to throw out, I picked it up, and I fell to the ground straightaway, I landed, hitting the ground with my ilium bone REAL HARD.

I toppled the bucket to my head when I fell, splashing the dirty water allover me.

I wanted to laugh for a brief moment, but I couldn't. My whole body was in shock, I felt excruciating pain radiating from my pelvis to every internal organs in my torso, quaking it like I were some kind of milk shaker bottle. I Shuddered on the ground, expressionless, trying to get my senses back, trying to comprehend the pain because it was so so bad I wondered something would happen like I might start coughing off blood soon or bleed from ears or nose, lol. I couldn't stand up for a few minutes, the worst wrenching pain I felt was around lung, liver, and heart. So bad I couldn't even breathe for the first few seconds I hit the ground.

It felt as if I just being hit by truck something.

After like five minutes, I could finally stand up. And, still quivering from the trauma, I wobbled away to clean the floor. I took a shower after all that, and thought... no wonder people dies just from slipping! I remembered my dear grandma who died long time ago because she slipped on a wet floor like me.

Anyway, now I have bad bad bruises on my hip, right elbow, left hands, and my knee. My left middle finger somehow got cut and bled. But organs seems fine? I breathe normally, only that it hurts a bit on the ribs. But right arm though, it hurts quite bad every time I lift it up now. I hope I didn't crack my pelvis or anything o_o

I wonder why I keep getting bad luck this month though??? Is someone voodooing me? lol.

Can I try blaming my home-assistant because she broke the ball valve? She also forgot to close the main door too weeks ago, letting mosquitoes inside and bit me so that I got dengue? If she wasn't that reckless I'd be all fine (except for the braces!). I'm glad I'm not that vindictive though. I said nothing to her.

I told my friend about how I slipped on the floor and they guffawed like crazy, almost dying. Especially to the part where I toppled the dirty water bucket to my head.

Yes that WAS funny. I'd look back and laugh at that.

Digressing a little, I had this one funny moment month ago.

I bought buff masks, the kind of stretchy motorcycle mask slash scarf you can use to cover your face and neck from cold wind.

That day, I wore it as I go to my cousin's place (he's a doctor and I had appointment with him).

When  I arrived, I pulled off the buff mask down to my neck and suddenly, everyone started to look at me, no, they STARED at me for a freaking long time.

I thought, well, what the hell, why's everyone staring at me?

I'm rather, you know, vain. So I thought I was just looking extra good that day that everyone can't stop staring at me. I know this is so L O L. You guys can laugh at me and my silly thought!

Once I met my cousin, though, everything changed, he said, "What's that on you? you're all blue!"

I noticed blue stains on my fingers, and... ON MY FACE TOO! in a shape of buff mask.

HOLY GUACAMOLE, LOL. SO EVERYONE STARES AT ME BECAUSE MY FACE WAS ALL BLUE LIKE A FREAKING SMURF! BAHAHAHAHA!!! So embarrassing I could die that moment.

This time I'll blame the new buff mask, or rather, the dye!

I like the buff mask though, it looks so cool. Here's the gray one:

By the way I told one of my friend to make me look like an idol, then she made this:

Lol, no idea who that is. But I laugh hard at this picture.
